RMC supports practitioners, families, and communities in the critical work of educating young children by bringing research and data findings to bear on practice. Working on several fronts at once, RMC has a national reputation in the field of early childhood and family literacy. We have worked to improve the quality of early childhood instruction and services, created research-based products on early literacy for care givers, supported programs that enhance parents’ contributions to their children’s academic growth and development, and trained educators in the most effective means of parenting and literacy instruction. National Early Literacy Panel Products In 2007, the National Early Literacy Panel will release the findings of its review of research on the factors and circumstances that contribute to the development of children’s early literacy skills. Using those findings, RMC Research will produce a series of products for people who work with, or on behalf of, preschoolers in order to reach a wide audience with information that can be incorporated into early childhood programs. Funded by and released under the National Institute for Literacy, these products are anticipated to reach educators, parents, program administrators, and policy makers. Manchester Early Reading First Evaluation RMC Research is conducting both process and outcome evaluations for the federally funded Early Reading First (ERF) program in Manchester, NH. A consortium of school- and community-based early childhood centers have been awarded ERF funds to create centers of excellence to support children’s cognitive development in crucial pre-reading skills and ensure that children enter school ready to learn. EvenStart—Federal, State, and Local Support RMC has been involved in the federal Even Start program for nearly thirty years. From developing products to guide continuous program improvement, offering literacy training, providing evaluation and technical assistance in program performance and effectiveness to state and local Even Start programs, working extensively with Native American and migrant education programs, RMC has been a key contributor to this innovative federal program.
